“Here is a fishing rod, now you must catch your own fish” With these words Marianna le Roux of Bakgat Sitrus Farming near Brits decided to make a success of their citrus farming enterprise. They farm with lemons and nartjies. In our program of 23 August, she tells the story of how she and her sons had to decide on continuing to farm or not. Today they are one of the citrus companies that export their produce. She also talks about the production of lemons and how the trees are pruned.
Dr. Pieter Swanepoel, Chairman of the Department of Agronomy at the University of Stellenbosch has some information on a study that was done to determine the impact on the environment when using rotation systems on dairy farms in the Western Cape Province. Dr. Pieter says that when doing these studies, the whole production system must be analyzed.
