Eleven years ago, Doornpoort Genetics Group made the decision to work together with the primary goal of improving their Boer Goats and their farming enterprises. They started the group with seven members and today they are 55 members, and 7000 Boer Goat does. In our program of 25 August, Kobus Lötter, Chairman of the Doornpoort Genetics Group tells us more about the vision and mission of their group and their plan for the future.

Mannetjie Lötter of Maneke Boer Goat Stud near Willowmore describes the ‘perfect’ ram. Boer Goats are bred to thrive under extensive livestock farming conditions. They are fertile, hardy and adaptable with good mothering abilities.

Erik Meyer of Erik Meyer Boer Goats near Alicedale in the Eastern Cape, tells us more about their vaccination program. Goats are susceptible to several diseases. They must be vaccinated at various stages throughout their development. Foot soaking is one of their line of defenses against parasites such as Heartwater.

André Barnard of Toorwater Boer Goats talks about profitability and the importance of culling goats that are not productive.

Dr Johnny van der Merwe, Director of AMT has some information on the latest prices for livestock and grain commodities.
