The Pompom weed is an ornamental South American herb belonging to the daisy family Asteraceae. It is rapidly becoming the most serious treat to the conservation of grasslands in SA. The Agricultural Research Council, through it’s Plant Protection Research Institute, carries out most of the research on Pompom weed – ARC. In our program of 17 February, Liamé van der Westhuizen of the ARC Plant protection Campus talks about the growth conditions of this weed and how to report new sightings.
Gerrit Meyer, Average Technologies Lead, tells us what the difference is between lightning damage and a surge. A surge could stem from load shedding for example and lighting damage is caused by a direct of indirect strike that is close to electrical infrastructure and equipment.
Dr Andrea Webster talks about stress factors in leopard and how these stressors are tested.
Cr Corrie Swanepoel, Snr Researcher at the ARC Soil, Climate and Water talks about CO2 levels in agriculture and the different programs that are followed to manage it worldwide.
