In January 2020 the Northern Cape was declared a disaster area. It is said that the drought that plagued this area as one of the worst in a century affecting 5 districts in the Northern Cape province. In our program of 11 May, Joe van Wyk, Owner of Manna Meatmasters tells us about this drought and how he managed his sheep during this challenging time. He talks about veld management after the drought and says that it will take years for the veld to be restored.

Dr Louis du Pisani, Independent Agriculture Consultant also talks about veld management in intensive and precision sheep farming enterprises. The period after the drought calls for careful planning and implementation of precision farming practises.

Dr Danie Odendaal, Director of Veeartsnetwerk tells us more about Sheep Scab caused by the mite Psoroptes Ovis. It causes wool loss and severe weight loss. It can also lead to death and financial loss to the farmer. Dr Danie discusses the treatment procedures and control of this disease.

Dr Johnny van der Merwe, Director of AMT gives us an update on the latest trends in livestock and grain markets.
