Demand for seedless lemons is on an upward curve

The era of seedless fruit is already upon us, revolutionising the world of fresh produce. From grapes and mandarins to navels and Valencia’s, seedlessness is no longer just a luxury – it’s a non-negotiable for many consumers and especially those active in the food industry. With grapes leading the charge for other seedless product varieties, consumers now expect the convenience of seedless options.

The worldwide lemon market is evolving, and while there is an oversupply of seeded lemons, the demand for seedless lemons is showing an upward curve. Retailers are seeking year-round supply of this product with its notable point of difference which allows for a premium price differentiation.

Driven by the need for convenience and responding to this trend, seedless lemon varieties are available from South African based Citrogold. Developed after careful selection and years of evaluation, Citrogold, one of the world’s leading cultivar management companies, is proud to be driving this seedless lemon category. “In this fast-paced world, convenience reigns supreme, and seedless lemons address this principle,” says Gerrit Genis, Marketing and Sales Manager at Citrogold.

According to Genis, “Citrogold’s approach to variety development is to identify emerging trends and support growers in adapting to them – after all, growers have to plant and expand with the market and end consumer in mind.” Citrogold is dedicated to evaluating and selecting the best available varieties and supporting our growers in achieving success. Some of these varieties include ARCCIT9 (Nadorcott LS), RHM, Witkrans, Gusocora and many others.
