The purpose of the National Veld and Forest Fire Act no 101 of 1998, is to prevent and combat veld, forest and mountain fires throughout South Africa. It puts in place a range of requirements and it is a major instrument for improved management of veldfires. In our program of 22 April, Hans-Jurie Moolman, Attorney and Director of Moolman and Pienaar, explains this act. Veldfires are a persistent problem in SA and annually results in disastrous loss of natural grazing land, animals and property.
Francois Knowles is the Registrar of the Agricultural Produce Agents Council (APAC). He has some information on the new biosecurity rules for livestock agents that came into effect on 13 November 2020. The rules aim to establish and audible and traceable system and will assist in minimising animal diseases because of auction activities.
