According to the Regenerative Agriculture Association of South Africa, regenerative agriculture is a system of farming principles and practises that strive to regenerate soils by restoring the carbon cycle, the water cycle and the nutrient cycle and in the process produce nutrient dense foods while restoring the soil’s other crucial eco-system services. In our program of 28 February Danie Slabbert, cattle and maize farmer near Reitz, talks about the use of ultra-high-density grazing, the impact of non-selective grazing on soil and veld improvement. This type of grazing system requires good management skills.
Louis Pieterse, Vice-Chairman of the Riemland Study group tells us more about the study group, their mission and how they promote regenerative agriculture.
Lindi Grobler, Director of Agri-Alchemi, has some information on the Fertilizers, Farm Feeds, Seeds and Remedies Act 36 of 1947. Its aim is to provide for the registration of fertilizers, sterilizing plants, regulate the importation and sale of fertilizers.
Thinus van Zijl, CEO of Agri Gauteng talks about their Young Farmer Conference that will be held soon. He also updates us on some of their other agricultural projects and the progress made.
