Landbou Radio – 04 May 2022

Reproduction is one of the most important traits in livestock farming. Reproductive performance is measured by several parameters. The biggest mistake that a farmer can make is by keeping a ram in the flock on its outward appearance. The result is that its progeny will be unproductive and keeping unproductive ewes decrease the breeding potential of the flock as well as the cost that is associated with this system. In our program of 4 May, Dr Louis du Pisani, Independent Agriculture Consultant talks about precision farming and the fundamentals of farming for maximum financial gain instead of maximum production.

Dr Willem Olivier, Production Scientist at the Agricultural Development Institute at Grootfontein talks about the development of the Afrino sheep breed. The society was established on the 5th of February 1980 at a meeting held on the Carnavon Experimental Station.
